i hit a golf ball today — for the first time in 8 months.last year, i played decently well — i shot a personal low 83 in Oceanside followed by an 84 at Rancho Bernardo Inn. Things were well. I hung out with my dad a lot, and I enjoyed playing.
Then I decided to head out on my own … no more lessons … no more 2x a week at the range. Between all that practice and how expensive it is just to
play on the weekend, it was blowing a hole in my pocketbook. Then I started to suck. Really suck. I’d go out, blow $50-60 a round to play and spend half my time furious at the little white ball. It wouldn’t go where I was telling it to. Nothing felt right and I was getting frustrated. Thankfully, about the same time I found a
sport that cost $0. So I took some time off.
Last weekend, I went to lunch with my grandparents at Aviara. I arrived early with Erin and we stood out on the back porch and watched some golfers come in on 18. I decided maybe I should go out to the range and hit some balls.$15 later (here we go again…), balls were whizzing in every direction — and none of them in the direction intended…and usually 30-50 yards shorter than what a 5th grader could hit.
Screw it. Stupid white ball.
